Activated Charcoal Benefits
Activated charcoal draws bacteria, poisons, chemicals, dirt and other micro-particles to the surface of skin, helping you to achieve a flawless complexion and fight acne. Charcoal is not metabolized, adsorbed or absorbed by the body, but it can be used to treat some poisonous bites and disinfect some wounds. Activated charcoal powder is proven to adsorb thousands of times its own mass in harmful substances, which makes it a popular ingredient in facial masks.

Oregon Grape Root (Mahonia Aquifolium) is best-known for its ability to cleanse the blood of toxins. Its detox effect is a natural result of its ability to stimulate health and beauty benefits.

Relieves placque psoriasis
The entire Oregon grape root plant is antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and antibiotic.
Herbalists consider Oregon Grape an excellent alternative to the now endangered Goldenseal. infection-fighting, antiseptic constituent berberine. scientifically proven that herbs containing berberine protect against bacteria, viruses, and fungi.
Oregon grape root is also an excellent treatment for placque psoriasis, an inherited systemic inflammatory disease of immune dysfunction whose most obvious visible characteristic is elevated, inflamed skin cells. Used topically, Oregon grape root “can be used in skin washes to deter the over production of skin cells that occurs in placque psoriasis.”
More than one study has concluded that Oregon grape root is more effective for psoriasis than pharmaceutical preparations. A study published in American Journal of Therapeutics, focusing on the topical use of Oregon grape root, showed that the herb was not only effective but had fewer (and less harmful) side-effects.

Fresh Foraged Sea chickweed Soap

This summer we have had so much fun exploring wild medicinal plants flowers and weeds around the coastlines of Nova Scotia !
My favourite part is gathering them and using them in new product formulations or drying the material to store for winter. (the dormant season)
The summer season is fairly short here in Nova Scotia

The amazing part is that i am continually learning and experimenting with botanicals and their old/new internal and external uses.
I will forever be learning the way of the herbs. I will never tire of the relationships i am growing with nature, nourishing my soul and stay grounded and at peace.

Give some new formulas we design a try. This product is paired up with beautiful essential oils of : Cajeput, niaouli & peppermint.

Fresh Sea Chickweed foraged formulary

Echinacea & Burdock

We are so inspired by the healing properties of herbs! So we have begun including fresh dug roots, leaves, plants, and medicinals from our garden in our recipe formulations !  Its been so exciting to notice the difference it has on the skin and to the lather and bubble of the soap.

Echinacea is well known as an immune booster and cleanser for the immunity  But have you thought about using it Topically?  Echinacea helps protect your healthy cells from invasion by bacteria & virus’s.  Echinacea will help to keep cuts, scrapes and scratches from getting infected & speeds wound healing process at the same time.  When used externally as a topical disinfectant Echinacea also has analgesic properties.

Burdock root is well known in Asia where the roots are common food called “Gobo”  We love to eat it here too on the  East Coast of Nova Scotia _  This is one of the best purifying root vegetable, its ideal for psoriasis, eczema, dermatitis, cradle cap, scalp irritation, dandruff, itchiness.  This is a great detoxifying plant for spring cleansing while supporting the bodies health.

This is a great soap bar to keep in your First Aid kit.  Be sure to take this soap on your summer camping trips!

Absinthe Soap …aka..the Green Faerie

For 2017 I am allowing myself  to unleash all creativity and try new things.

I have been designing new formulas and varieties of soap to lather up with.

My ongoing Enrollment in herbal classes keeps new ideas flowing,  Each month we gather to discuss and study herbs and their medicinal uses.

I am so inspired by plant personalities, energetics, beauty, scent, culinary, dyers, & medicinal uses.

Its all thrilling for me.   I like to see how they can be effectively formulated into skin care uses.

My newest creation is An  Absinthe bar.

It includes Wormwood, Fennel, Anise Seed, & Lemon. Saponified oils of: Olive, coconut, Palm, organic Safflower and organic Sunflower oils.  Spring water+

Celebrating 15 years … Est. 2002

We are celebrating a milestone this year !  It’s been 15 years since our business  Osha Mae Soap began !

In 2002 I began dabbling in alchemy !  I had returned from British Columbia with a few skills in my pocket, Soap making, Herbal medicine making, & Basic Botany. I strongly felt the need to put the skills I had learned in BC to good use in my life.  It began in my apartment on Chebucto road Halifax making my first small batches of soap.

My Vision had always been clear : the need to work with herbs every day, use only the finest quality ingredients I could grow, or purchase & work with! That was it! .. Cold process 100% natural Vegan soap.  Synthetic Free, Preservative Free, Dye free formulas.  Made with herbs rather than dyes  and scented with pure essential oils rather than synthetic fragrances.

With time, the tiny batches of soap gathered to be a collection that I needed to do something with.

My friend challenged me to find a place to sell them.  I began to display them at the Forum Sunday market.  It was so thrilling to hear the compliments from customers.  It’s the public’s enthusiasm that continues to fuel the progress of my business! The kindness, the support, & the hope I receive from every person each time my products are out on display.

It’s the wonderful people that helped me along my way that gave me confidence to continued all my studies in the fields I love…  Professional Aromatherapy with Allana & Lee of Casaroma Wellness center & Herbalism foundations with Danette Steele. Level 1 & 2 Herbalism with  Savayda Jarone.

Thanks to my Mom & Dad,  Mom always has believed in me and always trusted my instincts.   She was the first investor into my vision and business idea of Osha Mae Soap.  Mom loaned me a bit of money to make some ingredient purchases to begin my first  batch of soap.  My Dad’s proud support is so valuable to me, he still makes wooden boxes for the store shelves and for my aromatherapy displays !

Dandelion from your Yard ~ how to make medicine ~

The danelion from our yard was washed thoroughly and allowed it to air dry over night.  Finely chop into small pieces.  Place in clean glass bottles.  In the small bottle I covered the plant material with a strong % vodka. The other large bottle is covered to the top with Vinegar.  Plain white ~ since it was all I had kicking around the house.  Don’t forget to label the bottles with dates and allow to sit at least one month.  I always allow my herbal medicines to sit for 3 months at a time.

Massage oils and creams

The cool weather is here and after making a hearty chicken & squash soup, It was time to get back to work making lovely oil tonics for the skin.

Today I was working on massage oils. With the cool weather comes dry skin, & what better way to moisturize but with massage oils and creams. They are fast movers right now. Patchouli rub with ylang, ginger and wild orange.

Psoriasis oil with bergamot, chamomile and seabuckthorn. I will have Hypericum oil this week at the market. Wildcrafted Hypericum (St.Johns wort)infused in a rich Jojoba and olive oils. A hint of lavender fields for spirit.
